We’re in Burgundy for another sensational wine. It really is the most fertile ground for white wine and given it stretches from Chablis in the north to Macon in the south (more than 200km), the range of flavour and style is huge due to the terroir (mix of soil, topography and climate) changing so dramatically across the region.
Situated in the heart of the PouillyFuissé appellation, this domaine takes its name both from its proximity to the excellent ‘Aux Bouthières’ vineyard and the famous ‘Roche de Solutré’, a limestone escarpment which overlooks the commune of Solutré-Pouilly. ‘La Roche de Solutré’ is testament to the extraordinary geological richness of the surrounding vineyards and has become an emblem of the region. So impressive is its stature, the locals have nicknamed it the ‘Sphinx of the Mâconnais’.
The result is a wine with all the juiciness of ripe peaches and apricots sailing on a sea of minerality, influenced by the graphite soils coming together to give a complex wine with mouthwatering acidity. Dive in.
