It’s WHITE. It’s RICH. It’s SENSATIONAL…
Angelo Gaja is renowned amongst winemakers in Piedmont, mostly for the wine he and his family make but also for being a pioneer of Italian wine in general over the last three decades, influencing young farmers to lower yields and increase quality. His surname is indeed synonymous with the great appellations of Barolo and Barbaresco but it is in Langhe, the less well known neighbour of these red giants, that his 103 hectares of vineyards produce this fabulous white wine.
Rossj and Bass are the names of the two vineyards that these grapes come from. The wine is 95% chardonnay and 5% sauvignon blanc and it delivers huge complexity in aroma and flavour. Fermented in stainless steel and then aged in oak for six months before bottling this white, has peach, nectarine and jasmine on the nose, citrus fruits and menthol on the palate, and is rich in texture and body whilst retaining a vibrant acidity. Basically it has extreme depth whilst retaining an elegance that makes it gorgeously drinkable.
